THANK YOU!
Your support and contributions will fund our mission to improve literacy and learning in our commUNITY.
We feel fortunate that we have been able to give members of our community access to good books that reflect positive images and messages about themselves.
Reading to young children is a powerful way to build vocabulary and language skills. We were blessed to get a visit from Patrice McLaurin, the author of four amazing books on December 3, 2022!
We specialize in making SMILES. We served refreshments and gave out books and prizes to children who came to our Halloween Book Festival!
Our space is available to people who want to constructively engage members of our community. There is no vendor's fee, but we ask that you make a small donation to ensure that we can continue offering a place for literacy and learning!
Please email us at avantgardebooks@gmail.com for more information about having a book signing in our bookstore. #LetsReadTogether
We are committed to supporting independent authors. We are GRATEFUL that they continue to produce literature with good messages about people of color, their history, and their culture. Pictured: Alfreda Leola Johnson, the author of Belly Ache's Roots: Building, Blossoming and Flourishing.
It's critical that our children know the power of stories. That's why we have people read to them every Saturday at 2:00 pm! Join us! We would love to see you! Also, let us know if you would like to be a reader! THANK YOU!
We love to read! If you do, too, please join us! Each month, we select a book to read and discuss together. Our October book is Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death, and Redemption in An American Prison by Shaka Senghor. We meet virtually the last Sunday of every month. Please email us at avantgardebooks@gmail.com for more information. #LetsReadTogether
We are committed to supporting teachers. We are excited to announce that kindergarten teacher, Jamila Cooper is our October recipient of our "Teachers Rock" tee-shirt. We are GRATEFUL for her service to children in our community.

When young learners cannot speak well, read or write, they can get rich vocabulary, language structure, and content when people read to them. This is the reason we do story time almost every day. Check out our audio files on our "Story Time" page. Thank you for helping us!
